Seven days might not sound long for a safari in Kenya, but with the right itinerary you can fit a lot in without spending the whole trip rushing from one place to the next.
Travelling from Australia, Dan joined Kenya Tru Nomads in July 2026 for a seven-day safari visiting Amboseli, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara. Wildlife highlights from Dan’s safari
One of the most memorable experiences in Amboseli was watching huge elephants moving across the landscape with a clear view of Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.
The Masai Mara brought more memorable sightings. The group saw lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as large herds of wildebeest and zebra moving across the Mara plains.
With 20 years of experience, Hussein brought a huge amount of local knowledge to the game drives. He understood the area, knew the behaviour of its wildlife and helped the group track down the animals they had travelled to Kenya hoping to see.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but an experienced guide can make a real difference. Dan later specifically praised Hussein for helping the group spot wildlife during the trip.

Experiencing Maasai culture
A visit to a Maasai village was also included in the itinerary, giving the group time away from the game drives to meet members of the community and learn more about Maasai life and culture.
Hussein could also share his knowledge of the communities and destinations they travelled through during the week. Having a local safari guide meant the group had someone with them who could provide more context throughout the journey, rather than simply driving them between stops.
A coffee and lunch stop on the journey from the Mara also gave the group an opportunity to try Kenyan cuisine.
