Uganda Safari Tours
Track mountain gorillas in Bwindi, follow chimpanzees through Kibale Forest and stand at the Source of the Nile on a Uganda safari with Kenya Tru Nomads Tours.
Uganda packs a remarkable amount into one country. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to around half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, Kibale Forest is one of the best places in East Africa to track chimpanzees, and at Murchison Falls the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge before flowing on to Lake Albert. Add the Source of the Nile at Jinja, rhino tracking on foot at Ziwa and the culture of the Buganda Kingdom in Kampala, and you have a safari that feels very different from the savannah parks of Kenya and Tanzania.
Book a Uganda Safari for Gorillas, Chimpanzees and the Nile
Our Uganda safaris are built around the experiences the country is best known for. Spend an hour with a habituated gorilla family deep in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, track chimpanzees in Kibale, take a boat to the foot of Murchison Falls and cruise the Nile at sunset in Jinja. Shorter trips use domestic flights between Entebbe and the Bwindi airstrips, so you spend less time on the road and more time on the trail.

From Rainforest Primates to the Mighty Nile
A Uganda safari is as much about forests, rivers and lakes as it is about game drives. In Murchison Falls National Park you can expect lions, giraffes, elephants and buffalo on the northern plains, then hippos and Nile crocodiles from the boat. Queen Elizabeth National Park adds a launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, and Lake Bunyonyi is a peaceful place to finish a long trip with island boat rides and ziplining across the water.
Community visits are part of many of our itineraries too, from the Batwa community near Rushaga to the Ride 4 a Woman project in Buhoma and the Bigodi women’s projects near Kibale.

Frequently Asked Questions About Uganda
When is the best time to go gorilla trekking in Uganda?
Gorilla trekking runs all year round. The drier months, roughly June to September and December to February, are the most popular because forest trails tend to be less muddy and easier to walk. The wetter months are quieter and the forest is at its greenest. Our 6-day Christmas package is timed for the festive season.
How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking?
Gorilla treks in Bwindi are physically demanding. Depending on where the gorilla family is, a trek can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours over steep, muddy and uneven ground. You don’t need to be an athlete, but a reasonable level of fitness will make the day far more enjoyable. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old.
How much does a Uganda safari cost?
Our Uganda packages start from $3,440 per person sharing for the 5-day gorilla trekking and Nile cruise safari (midrange, based on two people). The 7-day luxury gorilla, Kampala and Jinja trip is $6,267 per person sharing, and the 13-day gorilla, chimpanzee and Murchison Falls safari is $7,627 per person sharing. Gorilla permits are included in all of our gorilla trekking packages.
Can I combine a Uganda safari with a Kenya safari?
Yes. Several of our Uganda trips begin and end with flights from Nairobi, which makes it easy to add a Kenya safari such as the Maasai Mara or Amboseli before or after. Contact our team and we’ll put together a combined itinerary.
What is included in a Kenya Tru Nomads Uganda safari package?
Inclusions vary by package, so check the details on each one. As a guide, our Uganda packages include accommodation, the meals listed in the itinerary, ground transport, the activities mentioned and, on gorilla and chimpanzee trips, the permits. The flight-assisted gorilla packages also include the return domestic flights. International flights, travel insurance, visas, drinks and personal expenses are not included.
